Week 1: Introduction: getting to know the materials through mixing exercises. Presentation on the history of oil painting.

Week 2: Simultaneous Exercise from observation in still life or photo reference, and in abstraction.

Week 3: Advanced Still life or Outdoor Urban Landscape (weather permitting).

Week 4: Session 1 painting from the figure with a live model, long pose.*

Week 5: Final session painting from the figure  with a live model, long pose.*

Note* There will be a $10 additional fee per student per live model.

Materials List:

Provided: easels, paint, medium, solvent, and rags.

Students' responsibility: Canvas - I recommend working life-size, I prefer working at 18x24" on canvas-paper taped to a ½” 20x30” foam-core board, but bring whatever you're comfortable with.

Brushes: I prefer natural bristle fibers, size ranging from 4 - 14,  and small rounds, size ranging from 0 - 4.  I recommend two brushes of each size, with eight to ten brushes in total.

Two 4 - 8 oz. jars for medium and solvent.

A larger lidded jar, 15 - 32 oz, filled 2/3's up with a dry grain or popping corn to act as a brush holder.
